LANY continues to explore resilience on ‘Soft 2’ with five new tracks and live video for “When Did You Stop Loving Me?”

Date:

LANY has re-opened the beautifully tragic world of their sixth studio album with the release of Soft 2. The expanded edition features five new tracks that build upon the meaningful foundation of its initial 10-track release, which arrived last October via Virgin Music. The alt-pop duo further emphasizes that there’s power in survival and courage in the face of life’s most devastating moments with each new addition to this record.

Each track on Disc 2 was co-written by frontman Paul Klein and Tommy King, beginning with “I’m Doing Alright.” It’s a soft, cinematic effort that copes with daily struggles through the lens of a pragmatic mindset. “Prettiest Thing I’ve Ever Seen” follows, with its smitten, head-over-heels vibe brought to life by a lively piano-driven instrumental. “How To Hold An Angel” shares a similar sentiment, but with a dreamy ‘90s R&B-infused sound.

The expanded release arrives alongside the official live video for “When Did You Stop Loving Me?” from the song’s debut at The GRAMMY Museum earlier this month. The tender track explores the fragile reality of heartbreak, with lyrics like “You’ll be the echo / I’ll be the empty room” and “Are you not terrified? / Who are we if we’re not us?” capturing Klein’s raw ability to convey the quiet devastation of a failed relationship.

Soft 2 concludes with “Finish Me,” a beautifully striking ballad that finds the frontman yearning for the stability of a lasting love.

With each of the five additional tracks, LANY seamlessly deepens the intentional and urgent vulnerability introduced on Soft. The pair proves that something beautiful can emerge from painful experiences through an emotionally nuanced and sonically resonant exploration of love, loss and growth.
