Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist JVLY has released his final single ahead of this forthcoming EP SUNDERLUXE. Releasing later this year, the indie r&b EP channels the likes of Rhye, NEIL FRANCES and LEISURE. The latest single, “END OF THE SKY” does well in complying a long list of juxtaposing instrumentation whilst still maintaining a relaxed atmosphere.
An established producer, JVLY focus’s on the overall texture of “END OF THE SKY.” A tight guitar and wider bass run parallel to each other in the first verse of the song. With this opening verse, JVLY is able to establish this expectation of contrast and use it to his advance. A tube synth in the pre-chorus adds an airiness to the mix. In addition, the synths stagnant melody compared to the more free moving plucked instruments gives another contrast of texture.
Finally, a vocoder on the backing vocals in the chorus is a small and subtle contrast to JVLY’s more organic lead vocals. By keeping elements sparse, he is able to ensure that the song never sounds like its competing with itself for your attention. Rather, by keeping his melodies and vocal delivery soft, he is able to reinforce a sense of calm in the song despite the abundance of differing sounds.
“END OF THE SKY” will feature on JVLY’s upcoming SUNDERLUXE EP. The EP is also set to feature remix’s from JVLY’s 2025’s SUNDER EP and unreleased bonus tracks.
