Holding Hour is sonically sweet in "Colors Talk"

Indie rock band Holding Hour dropped their newest single, “Colors Talk,” on Oct. 25. The band out of Des Moines, Iowa, is composed of Marissa Kephart and Scott Yoshimura, and has quickly garnered attention for their distinctive sound, featuring dream pop and shoegaze undertones.

“Colors Talk” is inspired by artist and teacher Joseph Albers. About Albers, the band said:

“I had been inspired by the artist and teacher, Joseph Albers, and his series of paintings where he studied how different colors were impacted or influenced by what other color surrounded them. I was also going through a rough time with my partner at the time, who had recently been diagnosed bipolar. He had had a manic episode where certain colors had been talking to him. I was deeply reflective during this time in how being surrounded by his energy had changed me and this song was born out of all those things coming together at once.”

Kephart’s soft voice paired with driving guitar chords and drums adds to the song’s introspective feel, feeling sonically sweet and atmospherically lush. Check out “Colors Talk” along with the rest of the Holding Hour Parallel Lines EP on the band’s Spotify.
