Grammy Award-winning pop star Halsey has revered that their fifth studio album will be titled The Great Impersonator. After months of teasing, Halsey shared a decades-spanning trailer to announce the “confessional concept album,” a reflection on illness. This project follows their 2021 album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power (2021).
Ahead of the album’s announcement, Halsey released three singles: “The End,” “Lucky” and “Lonely Is The Muse.” Each song is designed to represent a different era of Halsey’s music, with “Lucky” capturing the essence of the early 2000s.
The upcoming album carries mixed emotions for Halsey, who has hesitated about returning to the spotlight. In the teaser, the singer candidly admits, “I really thought this album would be the last one I ever made.”
The Great Impersonator trailer features behind-the-scenes footage of Halsey recording the album, dressed in costumes that reflect various musical eras, underscoring the concept of changing times. Halsey opens up about her ongoing battle with lupus and her struggle with leukemia, revealing that her health challenges made her consider that this might be her final album. In the trailer, the singer reflects on her journey, saying, “I spent half my life being someone else. I never stopped to ask myself, if it all ended right now, is this a person you’d be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?”
