Four-piece art-punk outfit Buddy Wynkoop release new single “Electric City”

Date:

Forming in Oregon in 2020, Buddy Wynkoop have released a string of singles and an EP over the last few years. Fast forward to 2025 and their debut album, Better Than Botox, is set to be released on March 16th. “Electric City” is the fourth single the band has teased ahead of their debut LP.

“Electric City” highlights Buddy Wynkoop’s sound of post-punk energy mixed with a hint of art rock. The single is led by a driving baseline, playful synth backing, and a mix of shout-sung vocals. The lyrics highlight the overall vibe of Buddy Wynkoop’s eccentricity by blending existentialism, modern anxieties, and social critique. Sonically and lyrically, they are very reminiscent of the aging New York post-punk quartet, Parquet Courts.

With the repeated chorus, “Electric city, neon lights / Concrete jungle, sleepless nights,” “Electric City” is very on brand for Buddy Wynkoop, essentially exploring modern urban living and poking fun at its supposed superiority to the alternative. Overall, the new single is introspective yet lighthearted with a modern ironic flair.

Look out for Buddy Wynkoop’s debut album, Better Than Botox releasing March 16, 2025, on all platforms.
