Elliphant is a Swedish artist blending her cathartic cadence with bleak beats to create a sonic experience like no other. Her latest album TROLL expresses an intrinsic longing to reunite with nature. Written amidst her experience raising her newborn daughter, Elliphant rekindles her inner-fire on this project with jaw-dropping plunges of bass lurking beneath her unabashedly bold vocal. With industrial beats that scratch the itch your brain has been craving, TROLL is a deliciously dark guilty pleasure.
TROLL weaves together feverish synths, painstakingly precise percussion, and a vocal that bursts like a cherry bomb. Her opening track “INTROLL” and closing “OUTROLL” immerse us in an atmosphere of cryptic wonder as Elliphant reawakens our senses and makes the animal within come alive. “DUST” is a high point for the album with fleeting riffs that descend upon the track like locusts. Elliphant cries out, “Make it dust now dogs make it dust! / Dusty angels in the center of the mosh pit!” Her hauntingly electric track “MOBS” will spike your senses with a swift vortex of vocals atop dopamine-inducing rhythmics. TROLL is a free-wheeling daze of adrenaline that could only be extracted from nature itself.
Revealing more on her album, Elliphant confides, “I am convinced that there are many of us who are on the verge of being consumed by the longing for nature and suffering from the lack of purpose in the struggles to fulfill themselves and find some meaning in our new world of societal duties. Sweden is the most secular culture in the world and it’s extremely important to not forget that the souls still needs caring. I am convinced that it’s the imagination that is our super power and purpose in life. I believe creativity when set free is the magic of humans.”
Elliphant’s debut single “Tekkno Scene” was featured in FIFA 13. She has collaborated with artists including Diplo, Doja Cat, Skrillex and Major Lazer to name a few. TROLL is her latest release.
