More than a year after releasing his 80s synthpop dream, Found Heaven, indie rock standout Conan Gray has announced a new album, Wishbone, which will be released on August 15th via Republic Records. A new single, “This Song,” is also set to be released next Friday, May 30th. This news is to the delight and elation of “Coneheads” (the name his fanbase have given themselves), who had been anxiously awaiting a new album since the release of “Holidays” back in September of 2024.
In the announcement post, he admits that the songwriting of these tracks was highly secretive. He kept it to himself, writing whenever he could without telling his friends or even his label. Slowly, he found himself “starting to need the music,” as described in his own words in his Instagram post.
He opened up about how the music he found himself writing expressed the most real, most sincere parts of him and reminded him of who he truly was, with these tracks taking him through his childhood, teenage summers, college bedsheets, and everywhere in between.
He describes the beginnings, inceptions, and final decisions of announcements quite beautifully on his Instagram, which I highly recommend you read if you’re interested in how this album came to be. He signs off his announcement post with a note that “a wishbone never breaks even.”
Wishbone is available for pre-order and pre-save now.
