colby! brings edgy nostalgia with new single, “To Each Their Own”

Date:

Alt-pop singer-songwriter colby! returns with her first single of 2025: “To Each Their Own.” Bringing a moody tone to the new track, colby! fills the track with catchy, repetitive verses and a powerful pop vocal delivery.

colby! has frequently collaborated with her brother RJ Johnson, a Berklee College of Music graduate. The two have been collaborating since colby! was 14 years old and “To Each Their Own” is no exception, with RJ having credits in both production and songwriting. The song is fast paced with an ever-present rhythmic kick. Electric guitar follows colby!’s vocals throughout the verses, which are structured by a booming baseline that ties them together the chorus. The song ends with the isolated, soft sound of the keyboard.

The production is simple and doesn’t try to do too much. It is clear that the focus is on colby!’s singing, which carries the song with its versatility and force. On “To Each Their Own” colby! adds,

“‘To Each Their Own’ is a vibrant song about growing up. Getting nostalgic about the people you used to hangout with all the time that now you don’t even talk to.”

The single is accompanied by the release of a nostalgic music video. Stream and view “To Each Their Own” below.
