Celebrate the icon that is Tom Petty with Gillian G. Gaar’s ‘TOM PETTY: THE LIFE & MUSIC,’ out November 4

It has been nearly eight years since rock icon Tom Petty passed away, but his legacy lives on. With twenty-eight Billboard Top 10 singles, a series of best-selling albums, and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he will always be an influence and a beloved musician and performer in the rock and roll world. To further cement Petty’s place in history, rock journalist Gillian G. Gaar will release TOM PETTY: THE LIFE & MUSIC on November 4.

Gaar offers a comprehensive look at Petty’s life and career, from his early days in Gainesville-based band Mudcrutch to his final album with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in 2014. Along the way, she highlights memorable projects and moments, like the recording of hit singles “American Girl” and “Free Fallin’,” the release of various solo albums, and notable gigs like Petty’s Super Bowl halftime performance and SNL debut. Gaar also gets into Petty’s relationships with esteemed rock icons Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, and Stevie Nicks.

Additionally included are 300 images that offer visual insight into all things Petty. Fans will take in performance photography of Petty onstage and candid shots of him offstage. They will also be treated to photos of nostalgic memorabilia such as concert and gig posters, record sleeves, ticket stubs, and period ads. It is all preserved in a special slipcase, making this book an essential collector’s item.
