New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter BENEE has come out swinging with her recent track “Off The Rails.” “Off The Rails” acts as a follow-up to the previous two singles, “Animal” and “Sad Boiii” which released last year. This track teases what BENEE has in store on her upcoming full-length project.
It was released alongside a music video with no shortage of BENEE’s signature zany visuals. BENEE dons a pair of bedazzled football shoulder pads as the music video jumps from a grimy, busy city street to a junkyard to a plush red bedroom with silver metallic elements throughout. All this comes with frantic editing and visual effects that add to the chaos of it all.
Lyrically, as BENNE herself puts it, the song is
“an aggressive, angry, chaotic product of my navigating the current state of the world and channeling my existential dread. It’s feminine rage—sick of being pushed around and embracing the chaos.”
The instrumentals match the aggression and anger that BENNE expresses within the lyrics. The song is chaotic and supersonic, complete with crashing drums, heavy electric guitar, and synth elements combined with additional distorted vocals and echoes that leave listeners struggling to catch their breath.
The singer wiped her Instagram, with the only remaining posts being clips or promo for “Off the Rails,” leaving fans buzzing as to what’s next for her.
