Boston native Armen Paul has released “Hangman,” a folk pop single that offers an intimate look into the grieving process of a romantic relationship, reminiscent of Noah Kahan.
In “Hangman,” the singer-songwriter writes about selfishly wishing his ex-lover were in as much pain as he is following their breakup. Over an acoustic guitar-driven instrumental, in the chorus, Paul sings, “I hope that somewhere down the road / You’ll say ‘I miss the days we stayed in in the snow’ / I hope you don’t know how to cope / ‘Cause I need you like a hangman needs the rope.” He ends the track on a more optimistic note, singing “I hope I’ll find out how to cope / ‘Cause I’m still learning how to let you go.”
Paul debuted in 2019 with the single “All Time Love,” and in 2020, he released the EP “I.” The Armenian-American artist has achieved multi-platinum certifications with his song “Hope” and with his co-penned track “Bouteille à la mer,” released by French singer Mylène Farmer.
