Reality Awaits is coming this summer. Yesterday, The Strokes confirmed that their highly anticipated seventh studio album will arrive on June 26 via Cult/RCA Records.
The band’s first full-length release in six years was announced via social media. Last week, the band invited listeners to sign up for marketing texts and provide mailing addresses; shortly after, 100 lucky fans received physical cassette tapes featuring “Going Shopping,” a brand-new track from the band.
The new single opens with a lively beat and effects-heavy vocals from frontman Julian Casablancas. While the track marks a playful departure from their usual sound, little is known about the overall sonic direction of the rest of the project.
The band has since debuted the track live in San Francisco ahead of their Coachella appearances this weekend. Along with the release date, the group also shared the official album art via Instagram:
