Sam Wray finds solace and soul on “Amy’s Bakery”

Date:

UK-born and based artist Sam Wray crafts a laidback indie pop tune full of uplifting slacker melody. “Amy’s Bakery” is his first track of 2025 in anticipation of a new EP which is in the works.

The new song dwells on the universal feeling of a comfort cafe, or just a comfort space in general; a place that you can return to reset, relax, and soak in the familiar surroundings. Wray says about the track,

“Amy’s Bakery is about being in need of comfort and being taken care of by a cafe. Wherever I move to I always find myself a cafe first. It’s the best place to recover from a hangover, have a quiet think or work things out.”

It’s a simple enough song whose content matches its form. A lo-fi sound complements the harping vocals of Wray, bringing together this relief at being back in your own little sanctuary. It’s easy listening to float along to, with just the right amount of emotional evocation. “Amy’s Bakery” harkens back to an era of indie pop currently being revived by the likes of Declan McKenna and Wallows.
