mxmtoon brings her ‘Liminal Space Tour’ to Boston with a heartfelt performance

Date:

Boston turned into a Liminal Space for the night when mxmtoon came to town on her Liminal Space Tour at Roadrunner. Maia released her latest album Liminal Space back on November 1st 2024 to immense praise as it is a beautifully heartfelt album and some of her best work yet.

When mxmtoon takes the stage, you’re not just witnessing a performance, you’re stepping into her world, a (liminal) space where her lyrics and infectious melodies create a unique connection with the audience. The indie-pop star, known for her self-reflective songs and heartfelt honesty, brought that same authenticity to her show in Boston, proving once again why she’s one of the most beloved stars in music today.

Fans were in for a treat in Boston as they eagerly awaited for Maia to grace the stage. Maia started her set off with “Dramatic Escape” before going into the more upbeat “I Hate Texas”. Her setlist was a balance of mostly songs from Liminal Space, in fact she played the whole album of 12 songs, along with playing fan-favorite hits like “Prom Dress”, and “Mona Lisa” amongst others. She really set the tone for a night of emotional vulnerability, and dancing.

One of the most heartfelt moments in the show came during her performance of “Seasonal Depression.” Fans in the crowd created a fan project and handed out blue paper hearts to hold over their phone lights to illuminate the crowd. It was a sweet surprise that left Maia speechless.

Between songs, Maia’s charm and wit were on full display. She engaged the crowd with playful banter, explaining the lore of one song coming from the game “Minecraft”. She shared stories from her life and expressing genuine gratitude for the love and support she’s received over the years. Her ability to connect with her fans is one of her most endearing qualities, making the night feel less like a concert and more like a shared experience with a friend.

Maia always knows how to put on such a genuine and stellar performance and creates such a safe and welcoming space for her audience. It is a testament to her ability to transcend the boundaries of the indie-pop genre. With her vulnerability, wit, and undeniable musical talent, she continues to carve out a unique space for herself in the music world. If this show was any indication, mxmtoon is on the verge of even bigger things, and we’re lucky to be along for the ride.
