The Wombats bring a marsupial sized party to Columbus

Date:

On November 4th Newport Music Hall hosted a triple threat of indie energy as Red Rum Club, Only The Poets, and The Wombats.

Red Rum Club, the Liverpool brass-rock group stormed the stage with swagger and made you want to dance even if you swore you wouldn’t. With tracks like “Vanilla” and “Would you rather be lonely?”, brought their Western meets Britpop energy to the crowd.

Only The Poets continued the night with a set tailor made for the dreamers in the crowd. All shimmering guitars, singalong hooks, and a frontman whose charm bridged the Atlantic.  “Emotionally Hungover” and “I Keep On Messing It Up” glowed with emotional honesty, warming up the room in the best way possible

The Wombats, opened with “Sorry I’m Late I Didn’t Want To Come.” The trio launched into a set that felt both nostalgic and freshly alive, mixing new and old tracks. Matthew Murphy’s signature vocals commanded attention , while Dan Haggis and Tord Øverland Knudsen kept the rhythm explosive.

The setlist leaned into the band’s best eras and a perfect balance between “Let’s Dance to Joy Division” euphoria from the newer, synth-laced tracks from their newest album Oh! The Ocean. Columbus had just been swept into The Wombats orbit and nobody wanted to come down.

Tickets for remaining dates are available now.
