Despite being rescheduled from May to August, the wait was well worth it as fans anticipated the return of Canadian rockstars Sum 41 and Simple Plan for the Blame Canada Tour at the Big Apple. A sold-out show with a stellar lineup at a beautiful venue in Pier 17 was a show worth attending.
First up on the bill was Set It Off, a three-piece band that originated from Tampa, Florida. Already having a dedicated fanbase of their own, the band got the crowd jumping and singing along to their notable hits “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing”, “Why Worry” and “Killer in the Mirror”. During the middle of their set, vocalist Cody Carson took a moment to express his gratitude to New York fans and his love for this city ever since the early days when the band first started playing gigs at tiny venues on Long Island.
Set It Off:
Next up was Sum 41 and not a second was wasted during their time onstage. Fans could be heard fervently singing along to throwback hits “The Hell Song”, “In Too Deep” and “Fat Lip” before closing off with the classic “Still Waiting”. They also threw in a Queen cover as an added bonus. The band didn’t play any new songs yet as they were still working on their next album but we are anticipating what they have in store for us!
Sum 41:
Ending the night off was Simple Plan as they opened up with “I’d Do Anything”. For the past twenty years this band has always given it all they got with their intense stage presence as the members were seen jumping around throughout their set. A memorable moment was when drummer Chuck Comeau came out all strapped up in a hazmat suit and gas mask (for covid precaution) before crowd-surfing. As the crowd was busy holding him up, vocalist Pierre Bouvier took over the drums while Cody from Set It Off did guest vocals for “I’m Just a Kid”. They closed off with the song “Perfect” and to sum it all up this show has been nothing but perfect indeed!
