Dropkick Murphys turns St. Petersburg Irish for St Patty’s Day

Date:

St. Patrick’s Day came early to St. Petersburg when Boston’s own Dropkick Murphys brought their St. Patrick’s Day American Tour to a sold out Jannus Live this week. Monday has never been so raucous. Solo artist Jesse Ahern opened the evening with an acoustic set filled with what could be considered drinking songs. Australian-formed The Rumjacks were up next, bringing an energy level that was exhausting. Next female-led  The Bombpops brought the California punk to the east coast.

The opening was great, but it was Dropkick Murphys the people came to see and they did not disappoint. Lead singer and founder Ken Casey never stopped the entire almost 2 hour set and the energy was infectious. He included the crowd in every song and entertained with anecdotes in between. Being a Monday, everyone knew they had to work the next day, but it didn’t matter. And in those few hours, everyone was Irish (including the Cajun chick writing this review). Ending the evening with the favorite “Shipping Up to Boston” and “Kiss Me, I’m Shitfaced”, everyone left exhausted and happy. So although St. Patrick’s Day isn’t for a couple weeks, Casey and the boys made it a memorable one!
