Laufey delivers velvety vocals in a spellbinding new single, “Silver Lining”

Date:

Almost a year after releasing Goddess: Deluxe, the Icelandic Chinese musical sensation, Laufey, has finally graced our ears with nothing short of gorgeously written ballad, “Silver Lining.”

Laufey had a career-defining 2024, with a few highlights being a sold-out world tour, a night at the iconic Hollywood Bowl accompanied by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and having an internationally-released film of that concert which received cinematic acclaim from both fans and critics alike. Most recently, she has had the incredible honor of being recognized as one of “Time Magazine’s Women of The Year.”

After teasing a snippet of “Silver Lining” on her instagram a few weeks ago, it is finally released for Lauvers — the official fandom name given by Laufey herself — all over the world to enjoy, as well as a merch drop.

There are endless gorgeous words in the english language and i will be using as many as humanly possible in this review because there is quite literally no other proper manner to describe how incredibly wonderful this song is.

The track’s first verse begins with bass, light drums and violin, creating the mellow Bossa-nova inspired sound we’ve seen on previous projects like 2022’s Everything I Know About Love. As it reaches the chorus, we are blessed with sweeping belts and swoon-worthy vibratos, are both quite unique to this track.

She explores the vocal style slightly in tracks like “Bored” and “Goddess” from Goddess: Deluxe, however on this song, her incredible vocal talents are on full display. So much so that you wouldn’t care about dragged to the depths of hell, because, as she puts it, “The silver lining’s I’ll be there with you”. A lot of her early songs like “While You Were Sleeping” or “It Could Happen To You” are touch on the early stages of a love that may not be returned, however with “Silver Lining,” the love is reciprocated.

One of the many qualities that makes Laufey such a standout is her incorporation of classical instrumentals. Masterfully weaving violins and cellos alongside her hypnotically smooth vocals truly elevates this track, along with her entire discography.

Review over, stop reading and go listen to it right now.
