Florence Road is experiencing a meteoric rise to fame that few bands are able to achieve anymore.
After the release of their second EP Spring Forward earlier this year, the group has been touring globally on a run with The Last Dinner Party and they’ve been accumulating dozens of slots at major festivals across Europe. Ahead of their sold-out North American tour set for this fall, the group has just released their highly anticipated single “7563.”
Though it’s being released now, “7563” is no stranger to a Florence Road set. For the last two years, the track has been a fan favorite and a staple at their wildly energetic live shows. The band wrote of their excitement to finally share the track on Instagram, saying,
“We’ve had the joy of playing it in Australia, across Europe and in America, and now you can finally know what the lyrics are.”
“7563” was certainly worth the two-year wait.
Florence Road has the sound of a band that has been releasing music for decades, which is borderline unheard of for a band as young as they are. They’ve always known exactly how to play to their strengths and “7563” is proof of that. It just took the rest of the world two years to catch up.
The track is instantly attention-grabbing with its explosive drums and haunting harmonies layered over one another. The lyrics have a surrealist edge, where losing track of yourself feels like morphing into an apple tree or being dragged to the ocean floor by a seahorse. Florence Road isn’t afraid of strangeness or specificity in their lyrics, which sets them apart from other acts.
On their first EP Fallback, there’s a track called “heavy” whose main refrain is “Tell me, tell me it’s not that heavy,” and after listening to “7563” I would say that Florence Road in fact can and should lean into this heaviness even more. “7563”‘s bridge is nothing short of rock-and-roll excellence. The rapid buildup and unrelenting rhythm section are enough to get your heart racing. There’s more texture and grit on “7563” than on some of the other songs in their discography and it’s something worth exploring on future releases.
Florence Road are masters of their craft, and if you’re not tuned in already, give “7563” a listen. You’ll want to be able to say you’ve been there from the start when they dominate the charts.
