George Collins’ New Single Release “Scarred for Life” Embraces Classic Soul with a Modern Flair

Date:

George Collins’ latest single “Scarred for Life” is a soulful tribute to resilience and hope in the face of life’s ups and downs.

Drawing inspiration from icons like Otis Redding and Leon Bridges, Collins seamlessly melds classic soul with modern flair, delivering a captivating auditory experience.

From the lush instrumentation featuring rhythmic piano and brass harmonies to Collins’ expressive vocals, “Scarred for Life” envelops listeners in a nostalgic yet contemporary soundscape.

“The title “Scarred for Life” had been kicking around in my head for some time, but the idea was to change the meaning from a permanent physical scar to mental wounds based on hard personal experience that can be transformed into something positive to enable one to embrace life and live it more fully – that’s the sense of being scarred for life.

So, despite the apparent (depressing) meaning of the title, it is actually a song with an uplifting and hopeful message about resilience and perseverance. And I knew this was going to be a classic Soul/R&B tune in 6/8 time – my homage to the classic Soul and R&B music I’d loved as a boy.”

Written from a spontaneous burst of creativity, “Scarred for Life” took shape as Collins strolled through the streets of his hometown Prague, creating melodies and lyrics on the fly. This organic process infuses the song with authenticity, reflecting Collins’ personal journey and experiences.

With his debut EP, “It’s Been a Long Time,” and the upcoming album “Songs for Grown Ups,” Collins continues to captivate audiences with his unique storytelling, infectious hooks and soulful melodies.

“Scarred for Life” was produced by Sundown Sessions Studio. Lead Vocals: George Collins recorded by Derek Saxenmeyer at ENEM Recordings. Horns arranged by Lou Pomanti. Trumpet: Tony Carlucci. Sax: John Johnson. Trombone: William Carn. Organ: Lou Pomanti.

About George Collins

Collins’s musical journey commenced at an early age under the influence of older family members, who ignited his passion for music.

At the tender age of four, he received his first guitar, sparking a lifelong devotion to songwriting. Throughout his formative years, he immersed himself in mastering both the guitar and piano, exploring diverse musical genres while sharpening his lyrical prowess.

During his university tenure, Collins sustained himself by performing solo gigs in Charlottesville, VA, where he swiftly became a fixture in the vibrant local music circuit. He also contributed his talents to Common Knowledge, an expansive ensemble reminiscent of Earth, Wind & Fire, which notably featured the future Dave Matthews Band members Carter Beauford and the late LeRoi Moore.

Reflecting on his connection to The Dave Matthews Band, Collins fondly recalls a lighthearted exchange with Carter Beauford and Dave Matthews backstage during a 2019 Prague concert. Despite jesting about his purported membership in the band, Collins reminisces about the camaraderie shared, with Matthews humorously offering his support if the topic ever arose.

Beyond music, Collins’ creative spirit extends to writing novels, screenplays, short stories, and poems, showcasing his multidimensional talent and passion for storytelling.

Stay tuned for The George Collins Band sophomore EP “Songs for Grown-ups” set to be released soon.
