When M’Lynn, a singer-songwriter based in Dallas, began writing music, it provided her a sense of purpose unlike anything else at the time.
She explored the art of songwriting at the age of 14 while attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Visual and Performing Arts, following artist alumni such as Norah Jones, Erykah Badu, Elliot Skinner, Edie Brickell, Roy Hargrove and many more. At school, she was inspired and moved by her established peers and released her debut EP, Grounding, and gained recognition on global radio stations for her song, “Just Take Time.”
Now, M’Lynn is back with “Happy, Sad, & Single,” infusing the track with soulful energy. The dance-pop chorus features the lyrics, “I’m happy, sad, and single / “Cause I got me / Who I live for,” and in the verses, she explains that she is waiting for someone richer. The song has just dropped and serves as an ode to those feeling lonely or single on Valentine’s Day, opting for a date with a bottle of wine instead of someone else. Rather than a melancholic, self-depiction, the song is a celebration of self-confidence. It’s the perfect anthem to dance to when you find yourself alone on Valentine’s Day.
