A couple of months ago, emerging singer-songwriter Brooke Sause released the moving breakup ballad “How Long.” The single set the tone for a moody summer, but it also ushered in a freedom to move on from the past. Without ties to an ex, there is room for someone new to slip in, someone who will have you worry about the “consequences” later.
On “Consequences,” Brooke dives into new experiences. Over light percussion, easy-going rhythms and upbeat guitar melodies, she sings about trusting her heart and letting the good times roll. With warm vocals, she sings, “There you are / Drinking at the bar at my best friend’s party / We lock eyes / Now none of my thoughts can control my body.” In the end, she concludes, “Tomorrow, I’ll have common sense and worry ‘bout the consequences,” allowing herself to chase after the moment. Telling us more about “Consequences,” Brooke shares,
“‘Consequences’ is a fun, flirty song about being young and living in the moment. It’s about using your brain less and your heart more. It’s for those moments when you consciously decide to do something chaotic, knowing it could end badly, but just having a good time anyway.”
You can listen to “Consequences” on platforms like Apple Music and Spotify.
