Niall Horan opens up on new single, “Meltdown”

Date:

We don’t know if we can call an artist with 22 million monthly listeners on Spotify underrated, but if we can, then Niall Horan is underrated. The Irish musician launched his career as a member of One Direction, then began his solo career in 2016. His debut solo album, Flicker, seamlessly blended pop, country, and folk, and featured then-breakthrough artist Maren Morris. He released his sophomore album, Heartbreak Weather, in 2020, and now he’s returning with The Show, out June 9th. Niall has something that many pop artists don’t have: Consistency. He’s been releasing timeless pop music for over a decade, and shows no signs of stopping.

At the end of last year, Niall began teasing “Heaven,” the lead single from The Show. He released “Heaven” in February and put out an acoustic version of the song in March. Both versions of the song feature impressive vocals, while the acoustic version showcases his singer-songwriter side.

Today, Niall released “Meltdown,” the 2nd single from The Show. The track “captures the frenzy of anxiety,” then provides “a moment of sweet reassurance”; he sings, “When it all melts down, I’ll be there.” He’s an intentional and sincere songwriter, with a desire to “provide his fans with the same sense of catharsis that he unfailingly finds in music.” He says, “Whenever I’m having some kind of issue, the easiest thing is to sit at the piano and let it all out, and it’s not until I listen back that I realize, ‘Jesus, that was honest.'”
