Explosions in the Sky played a nearly sold out show Friday night at the Ritz in Raleigh, NC. Currently in the middle of a 23-show tour celebrating their 20th anniversary, they put on a truly special show for their pit stop in Raleigh. The huge milestone made this show even more profound, as onlookers watched and listened, I could sense how meaningful and relevant EITS’s music has been and continues to be to each and every person that was in the room.
Their performance was so organic and flowed so effortlessly as if they had been making music together for a lifetime. The show was one of the most passionate I’ve been to all year and had me feeling like I was riding a mighty instrumental wave. It’s astounding how many layers EITS has, sounding so dream-like and explosive at the same time – it’s the perfect combination that leaves your ears not knowing what to expect next but begging for more. Between all the peaks of sound the crowd made their presence known and applauded the guys for being there and for continuing to be there after so many years.
Their most recent album, 2016’s The Wilderness, was their sixth and hopefully after this run of shows we will be hearing even more from them.
