Through the emotionally gritty limbo: Barb’s new single “mine”

Date:

Based in Austin, Texas, a new promising indie-pop sensation Barb returns with a beautifully gritty and reflective song titled “mine.” As an official SX 2025 artist, Barb has steadily releasing new music and traversing across the U.S. from New York to LA as a testament to the comforting placidity that music provides for the artist. Putting a D1-athletic career and three time NCAA top-finisher identity to rest, a new identity has been forged.

Following inspiration from alternative and pop-rock artists such as The Beaches, girl in red, and The 1975, Barb balances her boldness with a sensitive and light-hearted perspective on friendships, love, growing up as a part of the LBGTQ+ community, mental health difficulties, heartbreak, and fear. In short: everything suffered in your 20s.

The song “mine” follows in the success of singles “if you wanted to” and “beside you (so boring!)” that received high praise this year. “mine” is another dreamy reflection of the desire and emotional limbo one feels when you feel claimed by someone, but don’t know if they’re really yours. The lingering question between vulnerability and power, anchored by the lines “Don’t call it something it’s not,” illuminate the liminal space between fantasy and reality as it’s reached, carried by soft vocals and crunchy, grunge guitars.

“mine” is out now on all streaming platforms.
