The Trusted draw listeners in with edgy new single “Doomsday”

Date:

Driven by a suggestive and mischievous bassline, British band The Trusted’s new single “Doomsday” is riddled with angst and slightly dark imagery that is sure to soundtrack late-night drives for the coming summer months.

A devilish smirk can almost be heard on the tongue of lead singer Tom Cunningham, as the post-punk-inspired lyrics demand “get on your knees and start to crawl, take my love by lying.” The song draws impressive similarities to Catfish and the Bottlemen – one of their influences – while still maintaining an air of uniqueness that can also be found in 2021 single “Vellichor.”

With a guitar solo as rapid as it is intoxicating, the single offers a bit more grit than their preceding single, the refreshing “Terrible Fight.” 2022 single “Millennium” also contains guitar riffs indicative of their 21st century Brit-rock and Brit-pop predecessors.

And while “Terrible Fight” and “Millennium” align more with the sounds of The 1975, “Doomsday” takes a page out of Matty Healy’s book with slightly cryptic but nonetheless relevant lyrics for those listeners that love lyrical analysis.

In fact, lyrics “I heard the world was ending / and I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel,” can be applicableto almost anyone, anywhere, whether that’s based on political, personal, or ecological events.

The introspective nature that continues throughout the lyrics of the single only feeds into the charming package that is The Trusted. With each new release it becomes more apparent that this band has found their voice – and it isn’t going anywhere, even if the world is ending.
