The revolution continues with grandson’s latest anthem, “GOD IS AN ANIMAL”

Alternative rockstar grandson has released his third installment of his upcoming album INERTIA with his latest angst-ridden banger, “GOD IS AN ANIMAL.”

The single is the lovechild of George Orwell’s works 1984 and Animal Farm in music form as grandson explores the concepts of questioning leadership, revolution, and censorship personified as farm animals learn how to evolve, adapt, and “hit the top of the food chain.”

grandson explained that the track is “an allegory about resistance, the underdog, defiance, and the unrealized power inside of us all.”

He shares that in order to make it out on top despite all odds, one may have to go to extremes and, metaphorically, burn some things to the ground in order to make change, even if one’s own comfort is at risk: “But I don’t have a master / I ain’t waiting for my rapture / Don’t you see that we all captured / Ain’t no heaven waiting for me after / So I’m gonna let it burn. / God is an animal / Give me damnation / To hit the top of the food chain / Murder my salvation.”

This track is only the beginning of a much broader project, serving as the title track to a potential musical based on Orwell’s books:

“…I had this idea for a musical based off of George Orwell’s 1984, where a farm animal realizes to run the farm it has to move like a human. After a couple iterations of that, I decided to release the title track from it on INERTIA, […] It’s certainly a fitting concept for the present moment in time. After all, we live in a ruthless world, supposedly ‘civilized’, where the dominating nations and religions scrapped their way to the top through the savage rule of the animal kingdom. We’re ultimately just apes, too smart (or stupid) for our own good.”

“GOD IS AN ANIMAL” screams of heavy Rage Against the Machine influence, which is no coincidence considering grandson’s close ties to legendary rocker Tom Morello (as he’s featured on the guitarist’s 2021 single “Hold The Line”). To tie the connection in closer, the seventh track is co-written by record producer Kevin Hissink, known for his work with Morello, as well as Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda.

In addition to these inspirations, grandson continues to stay true to his sound, incorporating a guitar and bass line similar to his Mob Rich collaboration “Happy Pill” and background chants reminiscent of his works “Die Young,” “Stigmata,” and “Bury Me Face Down.”

grandson is not only known for blending the rock and hip-hop genres, but simultaneously serves as an activist and social critic, using his platform to shed light on education and political injustice. In short, he’s not one to bend a knee to “the man,” and INERTIA will be no exception.

Following the release of tracks “SELF-IMMOLATION” and “BRAINROT,” “GOD IS AN ANIMAL” is the third and final single before INERTIA’s debut, and if these songs prove anything, the album will be one heck of a ride, demanding the crowd open the mosh pit and chant “the Revolution won’t die!”

INERTIA will arrive on September 5 via XX Records in partnership with Create Music, and is available to pre-save on all streaming platforms here.

grandson will embark on his headlining INERTIA Tour across the United States and Canada this fall, starting in San Francisco, CA, on October 21, and concluding in Montreal, Ontario, on December 12. Remaining tickets are available here.
