The Neighbourhood shared an Instagram story on August 29 announcing that the alt-rock band has been working on new music following a three-year break. They thanked their fans for keeping “the music alive” in the meantime and shared their excitement about the reunion: “We couldn’t feel more honored to do what we do and can’t wait to share this next chapter with you.”
While explaining why they have been on an indefinite hiatus since November 2021, the group said, “As we entered our early 30s, we were faced with life outside of the band for the first time in our adult lives. Breakups, family struggles, and personal challenges.”
A year later, the band’s drummer, Brandon Fried, was accused of sexual assault by The Marías‘ lead vocalist María Zardoya, leading to his exit from the group. At the time, Fried admitted to the groping allegation, adding that the incident was “a reflection of who I become while under the influence.” About Brandon’s return, they stated: “We are proud of Brandon, the changes he has made, and the progress he continues to make in his life.”
Best known for their 2012 hit “Sweater Weather,” The Neighbourhood’s last album, Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones, was released in 2020. Since their hiatus, lead singer Jesse Rutherford has released an EP, &ONE, and an album, Wanted?.
