The Mezz returns with “Bridges”

Date:

For fans of: The 1975, Bleachers

Earlier this week, Oxford’s The Mezz delighted us with “Bridges”. With a couple of EPs and singles under their belt, they became popularized earlier this year as the BBC introducing artist in residence.

The song gives the impression of carefree enjoyment and upbeat energy, but is rooted in adversity. Now one year cancer free, the band stood alongside drummer Charlie as he faced cancer. During this period, the band was focused on supporting their brother – showcasing that The Mezz has built a foundation of community and camaraderie with their music. Additionally, lead singer Ben gives additional insight into the journey that led to “Bridges.”

“In this song, you’ll hear my heartfelt struggle with the world’s demands on personality and appearance. I grapple with the choice between embracing my true self and succumbing to the pressure of crafting an idealized persona for social media consumption. It’s a constant back-and-forth, a battle between genuine happiness and the allure of conforming to societal norms for wider acceptance.”

“Bridges” follows the band’s previous releases “Jump to Fly” and “Chasing Love.” They continue to warm the hearts of their fans with feel-good indie pop music. In 2024, they plan to headline hometown shows in London:

Feb. 15 – Camden Assembly, London
March 8 – Bullingdon, Oxford
