American heavy metal band Ice Nine Kills brings listeners into Gotham City on their latest crime-ridden single, “The Laugh Track,” inviting psychos everywhere to “dance with the devil in the pale moonlight.”
Frontman Spencer Charnas steps into the shoes of Jack Nicholson’s Joker from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film, recreating the iconic parade takeover through the city. The music video incorporates multiple references known to Batman fans, including the symbolic bat signal, villain-creating acid baths, and the Joker’s infamous laugh.
“So join the parade, turn that frown upside down / While you’re screaming in pain, I’ll be laughing out loud / Singin’: ‘God can’t save us! God can’t save us!’ / The joke’s on you!”
The music video introduces new faces to the INKverse, including actors Matthew Lillard (Scream, Five Nights at Freddy’s) and Phil Morris (Seinfeld, Doom Patrol), and returning Terry Kiser (Weekend at Bernie’s, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood) returning to the series.
Part 2 of “The Laugh Track” Official Music Video is not for the faint of heart; squeamish fans should proceed with caution.
The Massachusetts band continues their own storyline dating back to the original The Silver Scream (2018) album, through their second in the series, The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood (2021), featuring tracks inspired by films like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Psycho.
An impressive theatrical single, “The Laugh Track” is easily identifiable as a Horrorwood song, following up on the events of their Matrix-inspired single, “The Great Unknown,” released in September (although the band has yet to confirm a third album in the series).
Ice Nine Kills will bring their Silver Scream Con across the pond to London for the first time this December, featuring appearances from horror actors and filmmakers, including Hellraiser actor Doug Bradley and the Terrifier franchise’s Damian Leone and David Howard Thornton, among others. Tickets and more information can be found here.
Ice Nine Kills will embark on their EU/UK A Work of Art Tour this fall, with support from metalcore and rock bands The Devil Wears Prada and Creeper. The headlining tour will begin on November 19 in Milan, Italy, at Alcatraz and continue until the final stop on December 12 at Wembley Arena in London, UK.
