The Horrors, an alternative/indie rock band composed of Faris Badwan (vocalist), Rhys Webb (bassist), Amelia Kidd (keys) and Jordan Cook (drums), shatter the mundane outlook on life and challenge surface-level perspectives with their latest single, “More Than Life.” This is the fourth track from their upcoming sixth studio album, Night Life, set to be released on March 21st.
At the time “More Than Life” was written, The Horrors were in the process of creating a couple more songs before recording Night Life at the studio of LA-based producer Yves Rothman—who has worked with artists like Blondshell and Bartees Strange. They wrote this song in the middle of Canary Wharf, a location they compared to the famous Blade Runner setting, describing it as “a strange place to do anything creative as the surroundings feel particularly stark.” The band explained that, at this point, they were so engrossed in the project that the outside world seemed nonexistent. Inspired by the ominous atmosphere of Canary Wharf and driven by their determination to complete the album, the song took shape—delivering a powerful message of finding individual purpose and meaning through self-reflection.

“This song is basically about the question of what matters to you and by that point we were definitely clear on where we were heading.”
Deep vocals paired with an electronic, echoey 80s-inspired sound give the song a mysterious and intense quality, complimenting its philosophical and contemplative layers. The opening line, “Are we losing touch / With all the things we care about?” sets the tone from the start, immediately drawing listeners in and prompting self-reflection. The chorus, “This is all I have / All these dreams of mine / This is more than life / And I know the way we feel inside / When our worlds collide / When our worlds divide,” amplifies the song’s message, offering an intimate glimpse into the band’s personal perspective on life.
