The Band Camino take us to a new dimension with “Afterthought”

Date:

Fans have long-awaited the release of The Band Camino’s mystery song, teased on TikTok back in August of 2022. The clip, only 25 seconds long, is enough to sustain a loyal (and patient) fanbase until this week.

The alt-rock track “Afterthought” comes after a US headlining tour, where it becomes a setlist staple. Produced by Garrison Burgess and longtime collaborator Jordan Schmidt (Lainey Wilson, Kane Brown), and written by The Band Camino and Electric Football, the band reveal on shows across the tour that they have been working on the song and tweaking it for years. They shared on Instagram “The attempt to actually finish and release it 3 years later came a certain pressure that it wouldn’t live up to the hype…might sound silly but kinda felt like a finished version just wouldn’t live up to the idea of it in people’s heads after all this time.”

The song follows a crushing narrative, using movie references and analogies to emphasize roles in this “relationship.” It even mentions the band’s latest single, in the first verse “I’m at your door, it’s 12:34 / And you turn me away.” Capturing the same essence of a live setting, the song culminates in a tragic bridge, slow to fade away after a momentous final chorus. “Afterthought” is honest and unfiltered, something The Band Camino have been accustomed to since their introspective earlier EPs. An ear-worm and a gut-punch all in one, “Afterthought” was a well-loved nostalgic Camino classic before it even hit the stage or stereo.
