Australian pop-punk duo Teenage Joans have released their infectious new single “My Heart’s Dead!”
“My Heart’s Dead!” is a punchy punk-infused anthem for those who find themselves being cautious and doubtful when it comes to romantic relationships. The song explores the exciting possibility (or threat) of finding yourself falling in love again with a vibrant, pulsing instrumental. The rising act delivers a playfully honest track about vulnerability after heartbreak through lyrics like “My horoscope this week says I might find love” and “Stethoscope my silent chest / My heart’s dead, can you make it beat again?” Vocalist and guitarist Cahli Blakers shares,
“My Heart’s Dead! is a playful, tongue-in-cheek song that dramatically asks if someone could make you fall in love again by implying that ‘I’ll never find love’. We really wanted to write a song where there are three main vocal hooks that repeat throughout the whole song and layer over each other at the end for a huge singalong that people can easily pick up at our live shows.”
The release of “My Heart’s Dead!” was accompanied by a fun DIY music video made by Teenage Joans at home with the help of some friends. The addictive track came to life after the duo began to wonder what would happen if Kesha decided to give the pop-punk genre a try. Blakers reminisces on its conception, sharing,
“Funnily enough, My Heart’s Dead! started with a Ke$ha song. When we did triple j’s Like A Version in 2024, one of the songs we considered covering was Die Young by her. It never made the cut, but we loved the bones of our interpretation and we really wanted to do something with it. We basically posed the question: what if Ke$ha made a song with blink-182? That’s where the reoccurring pop hook came from, and we obviously pumped the song full of attitude.”
Teenage Joans will be hitting the road supporting Slowly, Slowly throughout Australia next month. Tickets and information for these upcoming dates can be found here.
