Teenage Joans are itching for excitement in new single, “Sweet and Slow”

Date:

Adelaide pop punk duo Teenage JoansĀ have released a crave-filled anthem entitled “Sweet and Slow,” giving us another look into the future sound for the ARIA-nominated band. Fans of YUNGBLUD and Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers will enjoy the raw and chaotic energy of this tune.

Building more onto their 2000s pop punk style, “Sweet and Slow” gives listeners an upbeat and charged sound. The instrumentation in this song is constantly shifting, offering a new energy at every phase. A tight and dense drum set that starts the song soon becomes larger and boomy as the first chorus starts, signaling the first shift in energy. It’s these subtle changes in space and sound working together that create the exhilarated fire that drives the song along. Teenage Joans are known for their exciting and electric live shows and this song was definitely developed with the live experience in mind.

The songwriting of the duo has also matured since their high school days, but it still holds that signature cheekiness. The verses’ listing of comparisons both set up the dynamic of the lyrics while offering some funny lines such as “A Phoebe Bridgers song than I’m a melancholic.” In the chorus, the development of songwriting shines through with “stain my hand with your number,” showcasing the band’s focus on creative imagery and description rather than straightforward storytelling.

“Sweet and Slow” is another single that showcases a more focused sound for Teenage Joans, sure to quickly become a fan favorite. If you’re hoping to be the first to hear this single live, the band are holding a release party in Adelaide this Sunday at Jive.
