Spanish Love Songs announce new EP ‘A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time’

Date:

Spanish Love Songs have announced that their new EP A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time will be released on November 21st via Pure Noise Records.

A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time marks  LA-based indie-punk’s first new music since 2023’s No Joy. The EP serves as a reflective pause, pulling from their past and looking ahead to the uncertainty of the future. Spanish Love Songs blend emotionally charged lyricism and their own messy existences to craft an honest glimpse into where they currently find themselves in life.

The band also shared two new singles alongside the announcement, “Cocaine and Lexapro” ft. Kevin Devine and “Berlin” ft. Tigers Jaw. “Cocaine and Lexapro” serves as a heartfelt answer to their 2018 track “Beer & Nyquil (Hold It Together) that addresses similar fears and frustrations about the non-linearity of life through a matured perspective. Speaking on the track, frontman and guitarist Dylan Slocum shares,

“I’ve been trying to work with Kevin for a while now. We have a good number of mutual friends but had never met up until this. The reasoning was simple — our band doesn’t exist without Kevin Devine, so when he agreed to sing on a song, he got to sing on a song. He took what I had demoed as an angry, contrarian second verse and turned it into something delicate and full of pathos. It absolutely floored me the first time I heard his vocal tracks dropped in.”

The second single, “Berlin,” is a dark, moody romantic track that details having a partner with a past that haunts the both of you. Slocum shares,

“Tigers Jaw is another band that we love dearly and had somehow never met despite having friends in common. When we announced the Common Thread tour this year and saw they were on the bill, we figured we’d take a shot and asked if they’d be interested to sing on our weird song. At first, we thought only Ben was tracking, but when we received the track back and heard Brianna doing the harmonies we absolutely lost our mind. It’s the Tigers Jaw thing we love on an SLS song. That feeling is one of the core reasons we even toyed with the idea of having features, and in that moment made the entire experiment worth it.”

Spanish Love Songs are currently in the UK and Europe for a headlining and touring festival run through October 26th. Tickets and information for all of the band’s upcoming shows can be found here.
