Sophie Powers unites with RJ Pasin for “XO”

Date:

Back in April, Sophie Powers began a new era with “move with me.” The single showcased a darker, edgier side to Sophie that is driven by raw emotion instead of by her hyper-pop personality. But even with this new sound, she is still pushing boundaries and revamping the pop landscape. Fans will recognize her bold attitude and outspoken lyrics, elements that will always be associated with her artistry. She is just taking things to the next level, and on her latest single “XO,” Sophie enlists the help of RJ Pasin to do so.

On “XO,” Sophie and RJ craft a dangerous, seductive, and hypnotic world. The track’s glitchy textures, infectious riffs, and defiant energy recall the metalcore, emo, and electronic soundscapes that RJ is known for. Meanwhile, Sophie’s whispered yet invigorating vocals give the single a grit that ties it all together. She gives us lines like, “Boy, don’t tempt me, ‘cause I’m crazy / Drunk on signals that you sent me” and “I want it / I need it / Obsession / I feed it,” letting us know that she is ready to strike.

About “XO,” Sophie shares,

“‘XO’ is pure femme fatale energy—like kissing destruction on the mouth. Working with RJ Pasin unlocked this wild sonic tension I’ve been chasing for a while. It’s the sound of me stepping into womanhood, claiming my power, and still recklessly chasing chaos like it’s love. As Hannah Montana once said, Sometimes, you really do get the best of both worlds—and this song is proof. My voice wraps around RJ’s guitar in a way that feels both raw and hypnotic, but it’s that mysterious, unhinged energy that gives ‘XO’ its heartbeat.”
