Scruffpuppie signs to Saddest Factory Records, releases “Assignment Song”

Date:

At only twenty years old, Scruffpuppie (the recording moniker of JJ Shubert) has won over a legion of fans with her honest and diaristic songwriting. Today, it’s been announced that she is the latest signing to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records, joining Claud, MUNA, and Charlie Hickey as the next artist to join the well-rounded roster.

With that announcement comes the release of “Assignment Song“, a punk-rock inspired burner of a track that draws its lyrics from Shubert’s time in treatment for drug use. Produced by Marshall Vore, the song begins with a soft, Japanese House-esque melody that eventually transforms into a storming, raucous track with a chorus hook that will sink deep into you. Shubert offered the following about the track:

“It delves into some experiences that were shared with me while I was in treatment, and talks a lot about how these experiences have been a fuel to the fire of our using, but how when we’re together, we are whole, and safe. That it’s okay for us to ask for help and that we’re never alone, even in our darkest moments.”
