Scarlett Taylor makes her wager on “Roulette”

Date:

In 2015, Scarlett Taylor officially began her career as an alt-pop artist after years and years of writing and singing songs on her own. It started with albums like 2015’s Lucid and 2016’s Churches, which introduced fans to her unique sound. From there, Scarlett expanded her sound and came into her own on projects like 3, Heaven Punk, and Crystal Poles, all of which contain a mesmerizing blend of synthwave, electronica, and dark pop elements. But no matter if fans gravitate toward Scarlett’s newer songs like “Pink Bars” or are bumping old jams like “Velvet,” they are here for the distinctive worlds she creates from one to the other. In her latest single “Roulette,” Scarlette whisks us away to Las Vegas and treats listeners to a night of lust, desire, and purple glitter.

On “Roulette,” Scarlett makes her wager and shoots her shot. Guided by pop beats and commanding synth, she describes a steamy moment with someone she can’t get enough of, someone she wants to have all to herself. With rich and commanding vocals, Scarlett sings, “Hot breath against my neck / The bass is pumping up so loudly / So tell me what you wanna do / Before we hit the hotel lobby.” Whether it’s the way her “velvet dress is pulled up tight,” the “purple glitter on the floor,” or the way she can see “Las Vegas in your eyes,” it all comes together for this one striking, beautiful moment.

About the single, Scarlett shares,

“‘Roulette’ was inspired by a chaotic, adrenaline-filled weekend in Las Vegas with my lover. It blends shadowy synth textures, hypnotic vocals, and a cinematic tension that builds like a late-night risk you know you shouldn’t take but do anyway.”
