Date:

The mid-tempo anthem tackles themes of individuality and people-pleasing with twinkly guitars and emotionally resonant lyrics. “what am i supposed to do?” is a reflection of the constant turmoil associated with overthinking every interaction, connection and inner thought you have. The song conveys these spiraling feelings with lyrics like “Will you ever understand my life? / Have another cry and I’ll be fine” and “What the fuck am I supposed to do / When I feel all these feelings but nothing can prove / That I’m trying really fucking hard?” Speaking on the track, vocalist and drummer Gabe Wood shares,

“I needed somewhere to rant about my feelings while on tour. But through finishing this song, I’ve learned a lot more about myself than anything else. I’m still figuring out who I am, but I’ve realized I have to respect my own emotions as much as I do everyone else’s.”

saturdays at your place also released an accompanying music video for the song set in a grocery store and directed by Hot Mulligan’s Tades Sanville. Sanville had his directorial debut with the music video for the band’s previously released lead single “waste away” last month.

The trio, consisting of Wood, vocalist and bassist Esden Stafne, and guitarist Mitch Gulish, has been cementing themselves as one of the most exciting acts in the modern emo scene since the release of their 2023 EP, always cloudy. Their upcoming record, which is heavily inspired by Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 film Magnolia, promises to be a cathartic release that tackles themes of growing up and surviving life alongside friends and on the road.

saturdays at your place are set to embark on a headlining tour throughout North America and the UK/EU this fall and winter. The massive tour kicks off on October 17th in St. Louis, MO before eventually wrapping up on February 1st in Kingston, UK.
