Every day is a test in some way. There are moments when you have to figure out what you can handle or what you can tolerate. There will be people who stand in your way. Some days will be better than others, where you pass these tests in flying colors. But then there are days that will be too much, days when you simply need to ask for a “Minute Man.”
On “Minute Man,” Sam Varga leans into the complex feelings and situations that are prevalent in today’s society. He holds back on personal opinion or judgment, as the song is more for the listeners to take in and interpret. Still, Sam drops observational lines like, “Getting warm and cozy for a colder war,” “Ice caps melting but there’s still some snow left,” and “Two kids kissing under bleachers in the fallout,” which can either inspire or enrage. Still, the anxiety of it all comes through when Sam sings, “Clock’s ticking, I’m thinking I just need a minute man.” All the while, he gives fans his signature genre-blending sound, fusing elements of country, pop, and punk to make for a lyrically and musically dynamic track.
Telling us more about “Minute Man,” Sam explains,
“I told myself I’d never release a political song. We’re all made to feel like it’s the end of the world every day—whether it is or isn’t is above our clearance level. So, I wrote it like a sonic inkblot test. The song doesn’t point fingers. What you love—or hate—about it probably says more about you than it does about me.”
