Singer/songwriter Sam Ryder recently dropped two standout tracks that have us feeling emotionally invested, valiant and refreshed.

OH OK” is a bold new confrontational piece about the feelings that fall over you when your past lover finds someone new. Creating almost a reverse break-up song, Ryder invigorates the trope with an enticing bass line and lots of belting. The blues/soul rock song follows his journey watching the girl he used to be with get together with a new man, as Ryder exclaims: “Oh, ok… But, we both know the truth, man.” The song is desperate but fiery, with an indie tilt and confessions of a need for connection.

In “OH OK”’s b-side, “Armour,” we get a look at Ryder’s more vulnerable lyricism. His powerful voice convinces the listener to hold on to hope. More than anything, this is a song that lets us sink into the ease that comes with letting our worst scars go. The track’s bridge is deeply inspiring and encourages an important sense of intrinsic examination, with lyrics like, “What starts as a drop turns into a sea / What starts as a breath turns into a scream / What starts as an empire ends in debris / When it all gets so heavy, set yourself free.”

You can watch Sam Ryder perform on The Kelly Clarkson Show on May 29th. And his EP, OH OK, is out now.
