British singer-songwriter Sam Fender has released the beautifully cinematic music video for his latest single, “Little Bit Closer,” reuniting with director Philip Barantini and actor Owen Cooper — both known for their acclaimed work on the Netflix drama series Adolescence.
The video, lifted from Fender’s third chart-topping album, People Watching, released via Capitol Records, follows Cooper’s character and a close-knit group of friends on a camping trip, where he quietly wrestles with questions of faith.
Sam Fender shared his excitement about the collaboration: “It’s so great to be working with Phil [Barantini] again, I had no doubt he was the right director for this piece, his video for Spit of You was my favourite. Phil called to say he’d asked Owen if he’d like to be in the video, and that Owen was keen. I was elated that he could do it after seeing his incredible performance in Adolescence. Alongside Semera Khan [Creative Director] and the rest of the cast and team, they have created something beautiful.”
The video’s cast also includes Jermaine Dzuda, Rio Drew, and Alfie Young, contributing to the film’s authentic, intimate atmosphere.
A monumental year for Sam Fender 2025 has already proven to be a landmark year for Sam Fender. People Watching debuted at #1 in the UK Albums Chart, becoming the fastest-selling album of the year so far, with over 100,000 units sold in its first week. It marks Fender’s third consecutive #1 album and earned him another BRIT Award for Best Rock/Alternative Act — his third career win. Critics have lauded the album for its emotionally raw storytelling and sweeping social commentary. The Guardian praised it as: “Subtle social realism delivered on a stunning blockbuster scale.” People Watching Tour — A Run of Sold-Out Shows Alongside the album’s success, Fender’s People Watching Tour is packing out major venues and festivals across the UK, Europe, and North America.
