Ren Martinez reflects on disappointment with a go-getter in “Another Boy I Love”

Date:

Ren Martinez—an LA-based singer-songwriter—released her new single, “Another Boy I Love,” an anthem for those who have been let down by an overly ambitious go-getter, allowing the relationship to crumble and haunt the one who put in the effort.

Similar to the delicate sound and vivid storytelling of artists like Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker and Snail Mail, Ren carves out her place in emotion-filled lyricism found in her debut album, Fingers Crossed—expected September 2025—including everything from love to rage and desperation.

Describing this track as a reality check, Ren channels her vulnerable songwriter side, providing a moment for the “sad girls” who can relate to hindsight being 20/20. The last line in the song, “I hope someday I hear another boy I love promise never to turn into you,” serves as a mic-drop, arriving after the energy-filled vocal and production-heavy bridge, offering closure to Ren’s detailed and cathartic story. Unafraid to tell the story exactly how it is, Ren pours everything into her songs, creating dramatic, emotional art that resonates with those who can relate.
