PEPTALK are getting “Good With Goodbye” in new single

Date:

Australia’s PEPTALK have continued their streak of collaborations with a feature from Chloe Parché in “Good With Goodbye,” an erratic breakup song inspired by the likes of Remi Wolf and MUNA

The catchy lyrics give spotlight to the pop trio’s career as songwriters as they playfully and sarcastically describe a volatile breakup. In the chorus, the line “If this is it, I’m good with goodbye” shows a person desperate to end a relationship even on bad terms. The second verse’s “I heard you talking, ’bout how I did you wrong / Was it the constant support that put you off?” summarizes the tongue-in-cheek acceptance of the dramatic fallout of a relationship. Each phase and verse progresses with the relationship’s collapse; the first verse is the initial end of things, the second is the differing reactions to the breakup and the final is a closing statement over the aftermath.

This narrative movement suits the fast pace of the music as the gang vocals and upbeat guitars set a fun mood for the song. A bouncy kick drum and snare set up the forward-falling rhythm with an acoustic guitar setting the summer tone. Some small, decorative synths and vocal sampling throughout the song give some playful sparkle, which only adds to this tone. PEPTALK’s combined vocals on the chorus are yet another element that encapsulates the summer pop sound. The Aussie pop trio could have easily taken the somewhat dark lyrics to create a somber song, but they instead worked to create an optimistic twist on a melodramatic breakup.

PEPTALK and Chloe Parché have written and produced a vibrant and infectious tune just in time for the start of summer (or end of summer for the Aussie group). If you want to hear this cheerful tune live, PEPTALK are performing a free show at the The Lansdowne Hotel on April 4th, where they are set to showcase “Good With Goodbye.”
