Vietnamese-American schoolteacher Monet Chánh Ngo, formally known as Monét Ngo, has released his new single titled “The Will of Heaven.” A heart-throbbing serendipitous ode blending pop punk, indie, alternative rock and R&B influences, Ngo described the inspiration for the song through recent Instagram captions:

“The most important song I’ve ever written. An ode to the impossible decision my parents, and many others like them, made many years ago.”

Another post caption read,

“To my mother, who crossed many oceans with no destination and my grandma who has the strength to choose kindness even after everything she has endured.”

Standout lyrics include, “Where will we go / When I can’t find my way home / And so it goes / I’m getting lost in these questions and answers / What does heaven, what does heaven look like? / Is it too far away, is it too far away?”

These represent the longing for a place tangled within the lineage of family members, to witness firsthand the memories of community and culture described by grandparents. Aunts’ and uncles’ warm embraces forgotten, cousins’ names no longer remembered in pursuit of a new journey, of immigration. This is an homage to the home Ngo keeps close to his heart.

“The Will of Heaven” joins his discography with the release of “Hotel Bar” in 2024. Under Unity Records, Ngo made his debut on September 21st, 2022, with his first solo album After School Club which includes hits such as “Lone Star” and “Ruby Sparks.”
