Five years after its release, CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE) still holds itself as one of NF’s most unique releases to date. Not an album, not an EP, the project marked a rare moment in NF’s career–a break from the rigid, conceptual storytelling that defined albums like The Search, Perception, and even Therapy Sessions.
Instead, CLOUDS arrived as a collection of songs he didn’t want sitting on a hard drive any longer. In many ways, it was a creative pressure valve. NF even sings in the title track “Mixtapes aren’t my thing, but it’s been awfully exhausting / Hanging onto songs this long is daunting”.
