Singer, songwriter, and actress Naomi Scott is back with her newest single “Gracie” off her latest album F.I.G (Fall Into Grace).
“Gracie” is a bold bass-led pop anthem with a funk-tinged hook, a nod to Stevie Wonder’s signature sound. The sonically infectious track is representative of Naomi’s shadow self, the version of her that does not people please and says what she means.
“Gracie” is also a reference to Naomi’s middle name, Grace. It’s the final song on the album and gives us insight on what she wants more of in her life as she sings, “I wish I had more of Gracie in my veins.”
Naomi explains:
“The album is Fall Into Grace. Grace is my second name so one of the themes is falling into other versions of myself. And so ‘Gracie’ is kind of like an extension of that. It’s me pining for a version of myself that I wish I had more DNA of, the version of myself who isn’t so moved by how other people feel about me. The video then plays with the idea of me being possessed by Gracie until I fully succumb to her. I shot it in my hometown of Ilford, I’ve always wanted to shoot a music video there and it felt like the perfect moment and the perfect song.”
With the release of F.I.G, Naomi finds herself in a more intentional and authentic part of her life. This album marks a new era for her that is deeply personal and shows who she really is.
Naomi shares how she feels about F.I.G, saying:
“I’m really proud of how meticulous it is but also how completely free I’ve been with the creative process, This has been years of honing, craft, and detail and getting it exactly how I want it to be, working With people I love, creating a soundscape that feels unique to our world, but also nostalgic and familiar. It really was a way for me to explore different versions of myself and with each song kind of mourn them I guess. Each song is a different ‘fig’, a different reality, a different path.”
