Last month, LA-based artist CASANDRA invited us to her personal oasis with ISLA TRANQUILITA. The EP was inspired by a phrase that CASANDRA’s late great aunt, Teresa, used to tell her in times of stress and worry. Meanwhile, its songs expand upon this sense of “tranquilita,” as they contain music and lyrics to help listeners calm down, reflect, and let go. In the end, the EP is as healing for CASANDRA as it is for the fans.
In July, CASANDRA is gearing up to release the ISLA TRANQUILITA LP. This project will include the six tracks from the EP, along with seven new songs. One of these songs is “HOURGLASS,” which she shares with fans today.
With “HOURGLASS,” CASANDRA flaunts the blissful side of the album. The track is minimal, with tranquil acoustic guitar, soft drums, and resonant synth guiding CASANDRA as she delivers thoughtful lyrics. Her sleek yet calm pop vocals are expressive against the instruments, adding much contrast to the song. As she sings, “Wonder if you’re mine / Always, not just this time” and “You think that I’m crazy for hoping,” it is clear that time might not always be able to heal, especially in matters of the heart. ISLA TRANQUILITA, the LP, will be available July 17. For those who connected with the ISLA TRANQUILITA EP, they will be able to tap into more of this dreamy paradise on the album. Here, CASANDRA’s vulnerable storytelling shines against a mix of alt-pop, R&B, and electronic music, bringing listeners further into a place of beauty and escapism. The songs also draw on CASANDRA’s Cuban roots, as they incorporate both English and Spanish lyrics and a various blend of musical elements. In the end, ISLA TRANQUILITA is uniquely CASANDRA.
