Thea Taylor, otherwise known by her alt-pop persona carolesdaughter, has cemented her place in the alt-music realm with her profound songs. She came onto the scene in 2020 with songs recorded from her bedroom, building a genuine yet significant following. Fans quickly fell in love with “Violent,” which now has over 376M streams worldwide and Gold certification. She has since been able to meet these fans in person, touring alongside artists like Pierce the Veil, The Used, Palaye Royale, and MGK. Notable publications like Alternative Press, V Magazine, and SPIN have also taken to the young artist, praising her artistry.
In 2022, carolesdaughter released please put me in a medically induced coma. The project was bold and rebellious, with hits like “Cold Bathroom Floor” and “Trailer Trash” resonating with fans. It’s been a long time coming, but carolesdaughter is in the midst of following the project with her upcoming album, You Can’t Spell Sweetheart Without Thea. The album, out July 10, promises to explore all sides of her identity, as the title alone is a cheeky nod to her sweet side despite her outspoken music.
To celebrate this album announcement, carolesdaughter gives us “The Invisible Man.” The single teases the genre-bending sound we can expect from the album, as it combines an ambient production with jazzy horns, 90s-style record scratches, resonant beats, and sweet vocals. With a defeated attitude, carolesdaughter sings, “I’m here to claim / But no one will bite / Chronically lonely / Nobody’s good enough to me,” accepting that there is no such thing as a perfect man, a perfect partner. You can listen to it below.
Elaborating on You Can’t Spell Sweetheart Without Thea, carolesdaughter explains,
“I can do it all. Modern trap/hip-hop meets vintage jazz royalty. No one else combines the influences that I do in one place. My goal for the album was to create something truly great and timeless. GREATNESS as a theme and not a generic term.”
