young friend blesses us with “Miracle”

Date:

Drew Tarves, also known as young friend, has lived up to his amiable moniker over the years. Listeners and colleagues feel instantly attached to the Vancouver native, whether they are hearing young friend’s songs for the first time or working with him in the studio. In 2025, young friend’s debut album, motorcycle sound effects, contained hits like “boyfriend material” and “golden rule,” which brought fans further into a world full of relatability, honesty, and companionship. But for his next album, New Entertainment, young friend is ready to tap into more complex emotions. He will focus on the concept of nostalgia, weaving together the notions of living in the moment and the passing of time.

To kick off this new album, young friend drops “Miracle.” Produced alongside friend and longtime collaborator David Marinelli, “Miracle” reflects on life’s little moments. There is an anthemic, folksy vibe to the track, bringing out the nostalgic tones of the forthcoming album. Over the twangy guitar and gentle drum beats, young friend slips away. With heartfelt vocals, he sings, “When you’re sitting there smiling / Watching me go / Listening to something / That’s 50 years old / Is this what they’re calling a miracle?” It’s bittersweet to think of what we have to offer, and if that will stand the test of time, but young friend treats it like something to celebrate.

About “Miracle,” young friend explains,

“‘Miracle’ is about the little moments and being so grateful to find love in those mundanities. The third verse serves as a realization that maybe even despite all of those beautiful moments two people can share, the illusion can be broken, and it might not in fact be a miracle.”

young friend’s upcoming album, New Entertainment, will touch on society’s dependency on technology, home, relationships, and desire. It will serve as a love letter to the places and people that mean the most to young friend, as well as a plea for authenticity. To protest against algorithms and the possibility of technology derailing the humanity of the world, young friend and his band recorded New Entertainment live off the floor in studio. The songs were recorded in two weeks with the musicians playing until the takes were “right in real time,” doing the album justice.

New Entertainment will be released November 6 via Nettwerk. You can pre-order it here.

In November, young friend will embark on the four-date ‘The Hard Rock Tour.’ The tour kicks off November 4 in Vancouver at Hollywood Theatre. From there, it will make stops in Los Angeles at The Echo on November 25 and in Night Club 101 in New York City on November 27. The tour will conclude in Toronto at The Baby G on November 28.
